There are broken people all around us. Hurting, hopeless, marginalized, neglected. Yet far too often the church is so consumed by defending their own doctrinal dogma and worship preferences that they not only don’t see them, they make no effort to understand them or the triggers that moved them to make the choices they made. We choose to be consumed with our own self-centered preferences instead of being consumed with compassion for the broken people with whom we see every day. That must change if the church is to regain its credibility with the disenfranchised and neglected.
